"Step Up To The Plate"

 English for Academic Purposes

       (David Ortiz at bat)

"Step up to the plate" is an idiomatic expression taken from the game of baseball when a player steps up to home plate in preparation for striking the ball when it is pitched.  It suggests you are willing to take on and accept a challenge or responsibility as in: "It's time for Tom to step up to the plate and take on his share of work."  At Level 7 you are at a somewhat more advanced level in your English language development.  It is nonetheless a level of many challenges as you work hard to overcome mindless mistakes and bad habits in your grammar, and as you strive to expand your vocabulary and understanding of syntax to express yourself in a more sophisticated manner.  At this level if you want to make significant progress in English, you will need to step up to the plate and do the necessary work to improve.  May you get some solid hits, and even a home run or two!
